I feel like I got smacked by a Mack truck. Twice.

I finished a poncho for my mom. Twice. The kicker is that I really like it, but it has to be torn out and redone. It's not right and it can't exist in its' current state. I started and ripped out two magic loop socks on one needle. I finished a Harry Potter scarf for the teenager. I have a shrug for MIL half done. And now I have a sock monkey on my needles, testing the pattern for my friend.

I am desperately trying to talk myself into and out of sock wars in the waning hours of the deadline day. What shall I do? Can I juggle school and sock wars? I think I can, since I'm certain I will be killed early. But does it make sense to get involved with so many other things going on? Building a "leprechaun trap," choosing the correct shade of green to wear in order to avoid being pinched, the endless discussions with her parents (Steve and I) who insisted that leprechauns aren't real even though she had seen pictures of them with her own two eyes. She arrived at school to find that no leprechauns had been nabbed during the night, and that in retaliation, the mischievous little fiends had overturned one of the tables and made a mess in the room, leaving behind little green footprints and tearing part of the paper of the trap on which she spent so much time and hope. With a party atmosphere in the air, things were going well when suddenly Mrs. B brought out the "shrinking potion" that everyone could taste to see if they would become the same size as the wee folk for an hour or so. She was terrified of the thought that Mrs. B would shrink! She panicked. She had to go out of the room with the teacher's assistant in order to get calm again. When she was able to stop screaming and return to the room, she found that Mrs. B had not shrunk after all, but she still felt pretty anxious and crawled under the table for awhile. Mrs. B was in the restroom with one of the other little girls who had tried the potion (apparently it tasted suspiciously like green kool aid) and ended up throwing up in the potty. It was a holiday the likes of which the emerald isles have never seen.

Design Class Today!

I had a great time! We talked about our progress. In my case, not much. Carol had some good insights and suggestions for my pattern.

Then we took a break and had Deb's homemade lemon meringue pie. Yum!

We drooled over the wedding dress Carol knitted a lace bodice for and Deb tailored the gown. My God, they are incredible craftspeople!

Carol taught us how to do short rows. I will never fear them again! It's a really simple thing. She also demonstrated smocking.

Our assignment is to take a few buttons and use them as inspiration for a design.

I really want to get my homework done asap and actually get some knitting time in today. Must do homework!

I joined the KH blogring!

It took forever, but I got the code to work correctly! I want to document my sweater design class over the next few weeks. I think I'm going to look for a better digicam.

The best news this week--I found the rest of the yarn I need for my sweater! I was really unhappy with the new dye lot from Brown Sheep and I couldn't use the two dye lots together, they didn't look anything alike. But I finally found the yarn I need. Whew!

Steve's sister and her family were here this morning. The kids were so excited to see snow AND hills in the same place. They got four inches last week, but the only available place to sled in Alexandria was the Masonic Temple, and they just planted trees at the bottom of their hill. (Gee, I wonder why...) We could still see blades of grass, but there was just enough snow to keep the sled going. It was only about 15 degrees, everyone got mighty cold, and the sledding only lasted about two runs per kid, but they are never going to forget the ride down our hill!
Now they are off to Rochester to visit with friends for the rest of the weekend.

I am going to go do some more swatching and try to figure out my stitches per inch. I also need to make some drawings in my notebook. The thing is that I have a drawing already laid out by the crochet pattern that I'm adapting, so I feel that drawings are redundant. Oh well, it's homework and I always do my homework.

I've lowered my average from 1 post per month.

I didn't achieve my 4.0 last semester, either. One of my profs gave me an A-. What's up with that? Okay, I'll bet I deserved it. So one semester ended and now another has begun. My class schedule will be just as crazy, but I'm less willing to make myself crazy over it. I think I have senioritis a semester early.

I'm doing lots of knitting projects and nothing is getting done. I have a secret project which has priority. Then there's a shrug for MIL, a hat that is aching to be decreased and then felted, a Harry Potter scarf calls my name, a ballerina doll has no legs, a lacy scarf languishes in the bottom of my spiffy new knitting bag. I shall hasten off to my top secret laboratory where my most pressing matters of yarncraft await.

Looks like I'm averaging one post per month...

I've been hideously busy. In spite of school, I finished the Hallowig in time for the holiday. I've got one mitten from Knit One, Felt Too done and started on the second. After a year of trying to get just the right yarn, I finally am working on a Harry Potter scarf for the elder daughter.

I have to reread Little Women in the context of Louisa May Alcott and the Cult of True Womanhood. I need to get cracking on my presentation on Hawaiian music. Husband has taken off for a week-long conference, then he's back Thanksgiving week and gone again the next. Then he'll be out for two weeks in January. I feel stressed...

Turned on the news this morning to catch the tail end of a report of tornadoes touching down in Ames yesterday. I restrained myself from calling mom at 6:15 her time to see if she was okay. I figured that if the tornadoes hadn't gotten her, being woken by the phone would. She called this afternoon, she's fine. She lives on the south end of town, the twisters hit north and west. My brother would have called if anything had happened, but it was still nerve wracking.

I made cheesecake this pm. A new recipe: butterscotch. Hope it turned out. I'm taking it to French class tomorrow, they'd best appreciate it. grrrr....

Daughter had her hair cut off on Friday. They got 4 large footlong pony tails worth. I've given birth to yeti. We're sending it to Locks of Love. We were told to put a note on it that tells them all the hair is from one person. It was a lovely visit. Saw a finger lake and the Curtiss airplane museum and then Corning Museum of Glass. Had a great time. Rented a minivan while they were here. Really want a Dodge Grand Caravan!

School is out of control. I was nominated for the peer judicial review board, but I just can't commit any more time. I'm going to have to back out.

On the sticks and string: I have two projects on the needles: blue baby kimono and shocking green Hallowig. I got the ribbon for both pink and blue kimonos over the weekend. I still haven't finished the ballerina doll or the Fraggle hat.

The leaves are beautiful today. It's a cloudy day, but all the colors make things look festive. The cool weather gave me the chance to wear my coat and Moebius scarf. I need to go over to the LYS, I've decided that I need a hat. Here comes project number 3!

Where is the knittin'?

Good question. I usually knit at least a little every day, but I haven't picked up sticks since Tuesday, I think. I'm going to start having dt's unless I get the rest of my life in order. I have to make the other two (out of three) art smocks I have promised people. I made up the pattern myself. I used the armhole markings from an appropriately sized girls' dress pattern as a guide. It has long bishop-style sleeves and a velcro closure at the neck. I made it out of a medium weight denim. I am a genius! I'll post pictures later. I intend to have those done today.

I am taking a class in statistical analysis for Political Science. I was afraid, because I am mathematically challenged, that this class was going to ruin my GPA, but it seems to be more about learning how to use SPSS 12.0 than anything else. WHEW! I am detail oriented. I balance the checkbook and do the taxes, but I am hopeless when you ask me to solve a math problem.

The leak stopped. Not too much damage. Hope the repairs don't take too long. The creek across the road seems a little menacing tonight, for some reason.

The IT service at school somehow deleted me from the student roster. I can only get into the student web page as a guest. The online course manager, a program called Blackboard, says that I'm not registered for any classes. My email and phone number are no longer in the online directory. One of my instructors is running her class almost entirely on Blackboard, and since it is a statistics class, I can't afford to miss any tidbit of info she chooses to give us.
